Australian taxi industry calls for Uber review following London ban

The taxi industry has called for a review of Uber’s licensing agreements in Australia following London’s decision to strip the company of its licence to operate – saying state governments had failed to stand up to the Silicon Valley technology giant as reported in the SMH.

Australian Taxi Industry Association chief executive Blair Davies said it was pleasing to see London authorities “standing up for their rules”.

“We applaud the decision by Transport for London to enforce its laws,” Mr Davies said.

“Uber have been flouting laws all around the globe and we’ve seen governments cave in to them, particularly in Australia and the USA.”
