Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT) Interest Free Loan Applications 2019 – Now Open!

Boost for NSW Tax Industry

As stated by NSW Taxi Council, the The Wheelchair Accessible Taxi (WAT) interest free loans scheme is designed to assist taxi operators in NSW to place new and additional WATs into operation. Loans are to fund the cost of purchasing and modifying a vehicle for use as a WAT, or retrofitting an existing vehicle for use as a WAT. Loans of up to $100,000 are available, from a pool of $5 million.

The 2019 round of the WAT Interest Free Loan Scheme is now open and applications will close on 9 August 2019

The NSW Government aims to improve the availability of wheelchair accessible transport services and the levels of service provided to people with disabilities in NSW. The interest free loans scheme is designed to assist taxi operators in NSW to place new and additional Wheelchair Accessible Taxis (WATs) into operation, particularly in areas of high demand where insufficient WATs are currently available, or to replace existing WAT vehicles.

Interest Free Loans are available for amounts up to a maximum of $100,000. In the 2019 round, priority will also be given to replacing WAT vehicles that have to be decommissioned or further modified by November 2019 to meet the 2017 WAV measurement requirements established in clause 10 of the Point to Point Transport (Taxis and Hire Vehicles) Regulation 2017.

Owners of these vehicles have until 1 November 2019 to comply with the new requirements.
